The probability of a safe arrest time is dependent upon the patient’s temperature. At 37C, if CPR or extracorporeal support is not started within 5 minutes, there is a very high probably that resuscitation will not be successful or, if successful, not without significant brain damage. Cooling the patient can greatly increase the probability of safely restoring the patient.
