From Concept To Clinical Application

Blog

Learn from my experience and join the discussion as I post many of my articles pertaining to varying subjects in perfusion science.

Oxygen Pressure Field Theory

August Krogh’s theoretical concept of the oxygen pressure field is explained and then applied to clinical applications in perfusion practice.

The primary purpose of this web site is as an educational platform for the Oxygen Pressure Field Theory (OPFT). August Krogh’s theoretical concept of the oxygen pressure field is explained and then applied to clinical applications in perfusion practice. OPFT offers a new perspective in perfusion physiology that goes beyond the Fick Principle which is the foundation of goal directed therapy in critically ill cardiopulmonary patients. Optimizing oxygen delivery is only half of the solution. This new perspective offers a broader understanding of the physiology of shock and reperfusion injury that may help care givers in the treatment of their patients.

Secondly this site allows me to gather together the many educational articles I have written on perfusion science in the form of a blog. The articles come from several sources, both public and private.  They provide additional education on perfusion applications which, I hope, are interesting, educational and even entertaining.

Since I am now retired, maintenance of this site allows me to remain in the perfusion ball game; not as a player, but more like a third base coach.  Retired perfusionists have a lot to offer in terms of their experience and wisdom.  I encourage other retired perfusionists to offer their insight using this website as a platform or by devising a site of their own.

Lastly, from an egocentric point of view, this site is for my family and friends to tell them what I have been doing professionally for almost half a century.

Perfusion Theory is an educational platform for the Oxygen Pressure Field Theory (OPFT). August Krogh’s theoretical concept of the oxygen pressure field is explained and then applied to clinical applications in perfusion practice.
